Youth Leadership Program
The Paddleboarding Youth Leadership Program runs as an experiential bootcamp style. Through the program youth will work towards completing three Paddle Canada Certifications: Basic SUP Skills, Advanced Flatwater Skills and Basic SUP Instructor.
The Paddleboarding Youth Leadership Program is designed to provide participants with Professional SUP and Leadership Skills they can utilize in their careers. Participants will upgrading their recreational SUP skills to those of a professional Paddle Canada SUP Instructor, all the while supporting development of leadership and confidence skills that are required to be a sports instructor.
This programs gives participants the certifications they need to fill talent requirements of outdoor experience operators seeking certified instructors. It's perfect for youth who hopping to teach paddleboarding as a summer job or professionally, and are looking to develop leadership skills in a fun, outdoor setting!
What to expect,
- Building confidence in guiding and teaching skills
- Practicing teaching volunteer students
- Having a strong understanding of identifying hazards, risk assessment, and risk mitigation
- Equipment use and maintenance
- Developing confidence making decisions within individual scope of knowledge
- Building leadership and teamwork skills in an interactive and challenging environment
- Enhancing self-esteem, independence and sense of responsibility
- Creating safe and respectful interactions within the natural environment
- Creating inclusive experiences for a diverse community and sport
Upon completion of the program, participants can expect to have,
- Build leadership and instructional skills that can be transferred to any action-based activity (ex. Skiing, swimming, mountain biking etc.)
- Build a working understanding of what it means to deliver an engaged, safe, and inclusive program or lesson
- Receive industry-wide recognized training certifications (Paddle Canada)
- Learn how to effectively instruct or assist teaching a paddleboard lesson as a volunteer, summer camp instructor, or instructor (potential employment opportunities at Windsure or other outdoor experience operators!)
